ANIMAL MAGIC - INTRO
“I am thankful for all of the animals, for their wild freedom and for their service, I thank the two legged, the four legged, the feathered, the finned, the crawlers, all the creatures that together form one family.”
(from “The power of gratitude” (2020) Sara Hermanies and Sven Goedbloed)
January 2021 introduced me to one of the most magical happenings in my life. During a plant medicine Shamanic Ceremony, I first felt, and later also got to understand, the magic and support and love we get from animals.
Actually the first animal I encountered this way wasn’t exactly one of the ‘usual suspects’ in the world of totem animals. No powerful bears, strong tigers or even beautiful butterflies. No my initiation was almost like a test - if I would take this ‘bait’, learn this lesson, step into this opening and really connect.
At 30 minutes into the Heart Medicine ceremony, I was laying on my comfy mattress, without my glasses. Thinking I would go into some dreamlike trance state, I was preparing for beautiful colours and some profound psychedelic patterns and goddess messages. Having read a bit about plant medicine trips, I was almost trying to find them behind my eyes. Waiting impatiently.
Suddenly I got to sit up and open my eyes and, as I later understood the magic of, with an eyesight of -4.00, I saw a Moth flying around the old barn where the ceremony took place. In awe with this Moth, I realised I wanted to follow her. Towards the ancient stone walls, and the old wooden beams of the barn. Towards the fire of the heat lamps. My Journey’s theme was different: no lying down for me, no colourful patterns, or dancing goddesses (seriously, somehow I expected dancing goddesses!) but a deep connection with Nature, and my Nature. Like a Moth to a Flame.
So Moth became my first animal guide. A guide into the realms of old forgotten wisdom. Of knowledge deeply buried inside of us. Us, yes. Because this wisdom is within all of us, and all we have to do is be quiet, and allow it to emerge. Remember.
Moth had some very powerful insights. About the divine feminine. About our collective shadow. About Lilith. About the natural healing powers that we women were forced to leave behind in the woods hundreds of years ago.
With the help of Sven and Sara, symbol experts, Shamanic practitioners, Guides and super grounded, earthy, loving spaceholders, I got to unravel the symbolism and the message of Moth, and of Lilith.
Lilith has been with me since. She taught me so much about being on the earth. About Mother Earth and how we collectively lost touch with our Home of Abundance and Wisdom. She even hangs on the wall in my room now. The Moth, reminding me of the divine feminine and all that it is.
